The Zrmanja river canyon is about 69 kilometers long and sits in the Velebit Nature Park. It takes under an hour to reach the main launch points and waterfalls from the Zadar coast. You have three main transport options: driving, booking a guided tour with a transfer, or taking a local bus.

What is the best way to travel to Zrmanja?

Driving a car is the most practical way to reach the Zrmanja waterfalls.

The drive from Zadar takes approximately 45 to 50 minutes. Take the D27 road towards Obrovac. From there, follow the local signs to Muškovci if you want to visit the Berberov Buk waterfall. If you are starting a kayak tour, follow the signs to Kaštel Žegarski.

Driving allows you to visit multiple viewpoints on your own schedule. There is no parking fee at the Muškovci village access point.

Can I book a tour with a transfer from Zadar?

Yes, many guided kayak and boat tours offer an optional round-trip van transfer from Zadar.

This is the most convenient option if you do not have a rental car. Operators typically pick up guests at designated bus stops or resorts in Zadar, Zaton, and Biograd na Moru. Expect to pay around €30 for the optional transfer on top of your €55 to €79 activity ticket. The van takes you directly to the starting point in Kaštel Žegarski or Muškovci.

Is there a bus from Zadar to Zrmanja?

You can take a local bus from Zadar to Obrovac or Jasenice, but this route is not recommended.

The bus ride takes 1 to 1.5 hours and tickets cost between €6 and €10. Once you arrive in Obrovac, you must hire a local taxi to reach the river banks or canyon viewpoints. Bus schedules are very limited, especially on Sundays. Finding a return taxi from the remote canyon villages can be difficult.

Drive to the village of Muškovci to access the Berberov Buk waterfall directly.

Muškovci is the main recreational hub for the lower Zrmanja river. It features riverside restaurants, swimming areas, and free entry to the main waterfall. The village is about a 50-minute drive from Zadar. This is also the final destination for most kayaking and rafting tours.
